    Just received this email:

I am looking to make a trip to see birds of Asia. It is precipitated by the recent news about the Spoon-billed Sandpiper in our major papers here. It sounds dire.

When is the best time to come to Hong Kong for the? Or do you know if Thailand is a more reliable location now?

For broad view of this, maybe try posting in birdforum.net.

I don’t know re Thailand: think less sp-b sands, but stay around longer.

in Hong Kong, good chance if spend a week in April, tho could miss (and should see good spread of other birds).

S Korea might be another thought; not sure how easy to see if you just visit the country, but some important wetlands for this species on passage.
