Ma On Shan
Info from Hong Kong's Great Outdoors
Perhaps Hong Kong’s premier “wild” mountain (despite the new town that’s sprouted beneath north slopes): a massif capped by great fists of granite amidst stunning scenery, and on clear days affording views south to Hong Kong Island, north to Shenzhen, and east across the Sai Kung Peninsula. The Maclehose Trail leads close by the summit, which you can clamber up to via a rough track.
Though you can readily admire Ma On Shan from afar, you must hike to fully appreciate its splendour, maybe by following the Maclehose Trail from Shui Long Wo (on route of bus 299 from Sha Tin Central to Sai Kung).
