Ferry companies serving islands in Hong Kong.

(And of course there’s the Star Ferry Company, though that mainly shuttles between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Plus the Discovery Bay Transportation Services routes serving the suburb across the water, Discovery Bay on Lantau.)

Slowferry,CheungChau

Sun Ferry operates a couple of key routes for outdoor Hong Kong:

Central to Cheung Chau;
Central to Mui Wo (aka Silvermine Bay on Lantau Island; there’s a bus station here, with routes serving several key destinations including Ngong Ping [Big Buddha] – I think it’s a far more pleasant way to Lantau than train or bus to Tung Chung):

– for each of these routes, there are fast ferries taking around half an hour, and slow ferries taking perhaps an hour or so (a little less to Cheung Chau). If you ride a slow ferry, consider taking the “deluxe” (ahem!) class, for air-conditioning inside, and open-air rear decks from which you can watch Hong Kong go by.

There’s also an inter-island service that trundles between Cheung Chau, Chi Ma Wan and Mui Wo on Lantau, and Peng Chau.

The ferries from Central depart the Outlying Islands Piers (currently no 5 for Cheung Chau, 6 for Mui Wo).

Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry (HKKF) runs services between HK Island and Lamma Island: the main ones depart Central Outlying Islands Pier 4, and serve Yung Shue Wan in north Lamma, and Sok Kwu Wan on Lamma’s east coast. Also runs ferries from Central to Peng Chau.

Smaller ferry companies in Hong Kong

Chuen Kee Ferry also operates a service to Lamma – from Aberdeen to Sok Kwu Wan via Mo Tat.

In the eastern New Territories, Tsui Wah Ferry Service operates a ferry between Ma Liu Shui – ten minutes walk from the University KCR (East Rail) station – and Tung Ping Chau in Mirs Bay (timetable – currently second of the links for ferry services). The company also operates ferries serving Tolo Channel destinations, including Wong Shek Pier and Tap Mun (Grass Island); also operates services from Hong Kong Island to Po Toi.

PoToiferry,HongKongAt weekends and on public holidays, Tsui Wah operates a small ferry runs to Po Toi from Stanley on Hong Kong Island. Ferries also run between Aberdeen and Po Toi, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays: timetable here.

There are also small (tiny!) ferries on weekends and public holidays from Sam Ka Tsuen [Lei Yu Mun], near southeast Kowloon, and Sai Wan Ho, to Tung Lung Chau. Some info here.
