Help with Snake ID
5 May 2007 - 2:19am
I was running through a Rocky Stream in Discovery Bay, Lantau yesterday afternoon at about 4:30pm and came face to face with quite a large Snake that did not recognise. I was running from DB up to the golf course via the rocky Stream and Rock Pools. The snake was about 5' long with a small head and slender tail, although most of the body was at least as thick as a golf ball. It was a dark Green/Brown colour with a very distinct yellow/cream stripe running from the head to the tail in each side of it's body. I suprised the snake as I came jumping over the boulders but it was not agressive and managed to turn and slip away into the rocks.
I have searched the web and the closest I can find is the Painted Bronze Back (Dendrelaphis Pictus Pictus) but it seems to suggest that it is a lot smaller and more slender than the one I saw. Can anyone suggest what I have seen?
Regards,
Bryan

Re:Help with Snake ID
Could be the Indo Chinese Rat Snake..certainly right length for it and sometimes the banding looks like thin stripes down side of body. Habituates streams etc.
