Rock Formations and High Island Dam Resources
Info from Hong Kong's Great Outdoors
Outcrop by the east dam of High Island Reservoir, and rough-hewn Po Pin Chau just offshore, show strong columnar jointing, resulting from cooling of tuff formed from incandescent volcanic ash. The dam is guarded by 7000 concrete dolos –interlocking wave energy diffusion structures that protect against erosion, including during typhoons.
