After a 4 hours hike in rain from Tung Chung to Mui Wo, by way of Wong Lung Hang trail, Sunset Peak, Pak Kong Au and the contour trail to Nam Shan – I found a leech on my clothes and a scar on my leg.

Had wondered in the past why I have never seen a leech in HK, well now I have.

Something to be aware of but not to worry much about.

The only place I'd seen leeches in Hong Kong was near the top of Tai Mo Shan; one or two tiny ones.

Seen a field guide illustrations of buffalo leeches, which look alarmingly big

Maybe one of the way less welcome creatures that can "return" as more forests grow again…

I think this is a leech. I found it under a rock in a stream on the Shek Pik Reservoir Trail. I wonder why there are so few in HK? http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5488/12679867124_bbfed7cba7_b.jpg
