Views on Updating BSAP for Hong Kong: save the lowlands, but original BSAP mostly all talk no action
Dear AFCD,
I am writing to submit my views on the updating of the city’s BSAP (Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan) for 2025-2035.

Lantau: need positive projects for lowlands, especially pui o wetlands [way beyond simply struggling to stop small reclamations here, there; death by a thousand cuts; obvious that permanent pools etc would be great there, maybe with some simple visitor facilities, but government just stopped by land rights etc, not seeing biodiversity there as worth much effort]

San Tin: destruction of large area for tech place is a terrible idea. Can use nearby land. Create big wetland parks etc, including flood protection for Hong Kong and Shenzen
Lowlands generally need protection. But everyone knows this, has known for many years including with original BSAP. [As Chinese White Dolphins, too; I see messages about these and BSAP, yet again knew problems, they have a reserve now with zero dolphins!]
Original BSAP was mostly all talk no action; I took part in overall meetings, also group re biodiversity, gave up as I believed it was a waste of my time and effort. [See article on this site, including “BSAP seems barely a blip in the history of HK conservation, an acronym for a document that meant little at the time, and next to nothing now“]
I expect similar, nothing of the \”mainstreaming biodiversity\” Christine Loh spoke of before.
After all, who cares?
And why care? It’s only our life support system at stake…. ….
